Chattogram, previously known as Chittagong is one of the bigger and more developed cities in Bangladesh. This city is very important for business and the seaway, on the other hand, it is also incomparable considering its natural resources and beauty. There are 11 districts and 99 sub-districts under the Chittagong division of Bangladesh. Many people say that if you haven't seen the beauty of Chittagong then you have seen nothing of the beauty of Bangladesh. In this column, I have tried to highlight the most popular tourist destinations of Chittagong.


  1. Chattogram Hill Tracts

Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) locally known as Parbotto Chattagram basically consist of three districts of Chattogram Division : Khagrachari, Rangammati and Bandarban. the only extensive hilly area in Bangladesh. The mountainous state with deep forests, lakes and waterfalls gives it an extraordinary beauty from the rest of Bangladesh.

  1. Amiakhum Waterfall

Amiakhum is something beyond our imagination! This waterfall is falling with milky white cold water alongside the sound will make you romanticize either with nature or your love. This waterfall is situated at a remote area called Tindu of Thanchi upazila under Bandarban Hill District in Bangladesh.This waterfall is situated in one of the most remote areas in Bandarban.

  1. Debotakhum

Clean and clear water flow, both sides covered with a straight high hill. Nearby there is a waterfall. According to the local residents this hum is about 50ft deep and 600ft long. Tourists go through it by traditional bamboo boat as the sunlight can not directly fall there, the place feels more cold as much inside you go.

  1. Bagakain or Boga Lake

A natural sweet and deep water lake, three sides bounded by mountain peaks and thick bamboo forest also there is a small spring named Boga chhara(502ft). Area of the lake is about 18.56 acres. A story is locally told, the lake was created after killing the inhabitants of a Khumi village and later devoured a deity who later came back to them in the form of a dragon. Just that moment an earthquake occurred, the hillside caved in, and the village disappeared and formed a deep lake

  1. Nafakhum

Nafa-khum is a waterfall on the Remaikree River, a tributary of the Sangu River. It is one of the largest waterfalls in the country considering the volume of water falling. The wild hilly Remaikree river suddenly falls down here about 25–30ft or 7.62-9.144m.

  1. Shuvolong Fall

If you are looking for a waterfall surrounded by high hill and has extraordinary natural beauty, then Shuvolong is your destination.The only available path to reach the waterfall is through the lake. People visit there by boat. It is a famous place with tourists for the waterfall, high hills, and the natural view it offers.

  1. Alutila Cave

Alutila Cave is also known as Alutila Mysterious Cave located in Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachari, Bangladesh. The cave is formed inside a 1000m high hill named Alutila and the cave is about 100m long. The cave is very dark inside so torches are needed to visit it.

  1. Sajek Valley

Sajek valley is known as the Queen of Hills & Roof of Rangamati.  The name Sajek comes from the river named Sajek which is situated on the border of Bangladesh and India.  High mountains, dense forest, sprawling grasslands and miles over miles of hilly tracks are the natural offerings of the valley.

  1. Cox's Bazar

 Cox’s Bazar is considered to have the longest unbroken sandy sea beach in the world,121 kilometer long. Being the longest sea beach Cox’s Bazar is less crowded than the other beaches of the world. People who look for a vacation with personal time, peace and relaxation, Cox’s Bazar is a recommendable holiday destination for them.

  1. Buddha Dhatu Jadi

Buddha Dhatu Jadi is also known as the Golden Temple, is the largest Theravada Buddhist temple in Bangladesh and has the second-largest Buddha statue in the country. This is one of the best pagodas in Southeast Asia. It is a combination of natural and modern religious architectural tourism. Every year between the end of January and first of February a fair is held here. The temple is open for all to visit and worship but after 7pm none can enter here without worship purpose.

  1. Moheshkhali Island

Being known as Moheshhkhali Dwip or Island is the only hilly island in Bangladesh. This land got its name from Buddhist Sen Maheswar around 200 years back. The island is quite hilly and has mangrove trees alongside the coastal beach. There are 3 islands named Sonadia, Matarbari, and Dhalghata. Adinath Temple is a famous pilgrimage site where Hindus meet on an annual occasion. There are few other small attractions such as a Buddhist temple, a shrine of Adinath on the hill, salt field, etc.

  1. Nilgiri

If you have the fantasy of touching the clouds with your hands or even watching clouds flowing below your foot then Nilgiri is your obvious destination. Clouds so close and a clear blue sky overhead with the natural green scenario is somethings, forms inner peace and spiritual sanity. On the way to Nilgiri the combination of zigzagging hilly roads, the beauty of Bandarban, hill peak, tribal village-culture and others will give you a lifetime unforgettable experience.

  1. Nilachal

Nil means blue; achal means mountain so basically Nilachal means Blue Mountain. The name itself is a deep identity of the location. The beauty of wet nature in the rainy season will seduce you. The entire area is hilly with green nature, The distant fresh forests in the distance, the black clouds in the sky and the roar of the distant beach all combine to create an amazing view of nature. In autumn and fall, the magic of clouds can be seen in Nilachal. This spot has everything  of natural beauty from refreshing sunrise to cozy sunset, hills, birds, clouds, fresh air, the soft music of nature and all.

  1. Ramu

Ramu is famous for Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries. Rangkut Bonasram Buddha Bihar is the oldest temple in the area. People say it was established in around 338 BC. The 100ft golden lion reclining statue of Lord Buddha, located at the Vimutri Bidarshan Bhabna Kendra O Bhuban Shanti is considered to be the world’s third-largest Buddha statue. There is also a 200 acre coconut garden with more than one million trees.

  1. Himchari

Himchari, officially Himchari National Park is one of the natural reserves of Bangladesh. The area of the park is approximately (17.29)² km. In 1980 this park was declared a protected area by the government. There are more than 100 species of trees, 55 species of mammals, 13 species of amphibians, 56 species of reptiles, 117 species of plants, and 286 species of different kinds of birds.The park has a small waterfall. The main hill is 108ft high from the ground. There are stairs made to climb the hill for normal people, from the peak of that you can see one side fully greeny forest on the other side the blue pacific view of the Bay of Bengal.

  1. Saint Martin's Island

Saint Martin’s Island is a famous island of Bangladesh though it's only 3² km but it is one of the main attractions to the tourists who come to Bangladesh. It has fresh blue water with corals, beautiful sandy beaches, a lot of coconut trees, and plenty of natural beauties. I must say that the coconuts of the island are very tasty and filled with a high quantity of water. Sunrise and sunset are two most amazing things you will definitely fall in love with.


 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf, Chittagong.


  1. Chhera Dwip

Chhera Island, domestically addressed as Chhera Dwip is another island in Bangladesh. This is an uninhabited island and extension of St. Martin's Island at the mouth of the Naf River in the Bay of Bengal. On this Island, you will find the Corals – living and dead all over the place.

  1. Chandimura Mandir

Lalmai Chandi Temple, also known as Chandimura Temple/Mandir, is situated on a hill named Lalmai Pathar. This temple is dedicated to goddess Kali. It was founded by Queen Probhabati in the 7th century.

  1. Rangamati Kaptai Lake

This is the largest lake in Bangladesh. It was created by building Kaptai Dam on Karnaphuli River. Its average depth is 100ft and maximum depth is 490ft.

  1. Shalban Vihara

Commonly known as Shalban Bihar, is an ancient archeological site with evidential traces of the 12th century. Researchers have found many archaeological artifacts dated to between the 7th and 12th centuries here. This is similar to Paharpur Buddhist Monasteries. This vihara has 115 cells for monks. It was a famous Buddhist Monasteries in the region in the past.

  1. Chandranath Hill

Chandranath hill is a part of Himalayas. There are 2 waterfalls named Sahastradhara and Suptadhara. Many more fountains and waterfalls are there in the Mirsarai part. Sitakunda Eco Park is built in the foothills of this hill. The Chandranath Temple, which is situated on the highest peak of the hill is about 1152 feet high and the highest place in Chattogram district.

  1. Khoiyachora Waterfall

Khoiyachora Waterfall is considered to be one of the biggest waterfalls in Bangladesh. There are nine steps (like stairs) on the run of the waterfall. There is a hill where fire always burns even in rain at Khoiyachora. Khoiyachora is known as,”The Queen of Waterfalls in Bangladesh” This is situated in the hill tracks on Mirsharai, there are seven waterfalls in total.

  1. Nijhum Dwip

Nijhum Dwip means Silent Island is one of the most attractive natural scenarios in Bangladesh. The total area of the island is around 14050 acres. In 2001 the government of Bangladesh declared 40,390 acres  of forest of Jahajmara range including 9,550 acres of forest land on Nijhum Dwip as a National Park for the protection and development of the biodiversity of the forest.

World Peace Pagoda is a Buddhist Pagoda in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong district. This pagoda is famous for its architectural attractions with the area's natural beauty.
